Meet Shannon Turner
Cake Artist, Owner

Hello
I was born in Montgomery, Alabama in the early '80s. At the time, my grandparents were running their first highly successful restaurant. I spent my formative years watching my grandmother, a world-famous chef, lovingly and soulfully work in her restaurant kitchen. She promised to formally teach me everything she knew when I was tall enough to see the top of the stove, but I was absorbing impactful lessons long before that day came.
In my teens, I was drawn to further development of my baking and cake decorating skills and found a mentor in my high-school home economics teacher. For sheer pleasure, I took her class twice, longing for more hours each day in the class kitchen. I then completed a professional two-year foodservice course before graduating from high school.
Wanting to blend my cake obsession (which to this point, had merely been a side-hobby) with my passion for hospitality, I started Shannon Turner Cakes in 2017, with the highest dedication to providing beautiful and delicious cakes, as well as a phenomenal customer service experience.

Your Cake Experience
During our initial consult, I want to learn about your event, your taste, and your style. I'll ask for inspiration photos and anything else you have to share with me, including fabric swatches, texture samples, or anything else that moves you, toward the end of creating the cake of your dreams.

It is said that "you eat with your eyes first". This is true. Your cake must be beautiful. But it also must be delicious. It is with this in mind that I begin my work each day. Every time I create a cake, it is a sacrament. From the first sketch to the first slice on the plate, I am joyfully moved and lovingly in service.

A cake is so beautiful as it is going through the process of becoming. Rarely do I have a crystal clear picture of what a cake will be in the end. It is an artistic process that brings me so much joy.

Cake Tastings
& Consultations
My wedding cake tasting experience lasts about an hour and includes:
-
A two-person wedding cake tasting, including three mini-cakes made with organic ingredients (each with a different flavor profile of your choice), and sparkling water
-
Design exploration to review your inspiration photos, details of your wedding décor, and discuss your style and what moves you in wedding cake design
-
A rough sketch process to determine the size, shape, and configuration of your wedding cake, as well as any design elements you would like to include
To facilitate the design exploration process of your consultation experience, your wedding venue, wedding date, and a large percentage of your design details should be determined before you schedule your wedding cake tasting and consultation.
